Vocabulary

to settle down somewhere

Hello,
This has probably been discussed before, but I have a specific sentence. What would "They settled down in the Southern part of the country and lived happily ever after" suggest to you? Doesn't it mean that they traveled/moved around a lot? I think in the old days "settling down" also involved getting married.

Thank you.

To my ear "settled" means permanently located, and "settled down" additionally implies marriage, especially with "lived happily ever after".
