Could you tell me how common the idiom "to see the back of someone" is in everyday English?

Is this sentence completely natural?

Once she realized he wasn't sincere to her at all, she decided to see the back of him for ever.

Not to my ear.

I'd say that when you 'see the back of someone', it is because that person has decided to leave.
eg When he left, she was glad to see the back of him, because she realized he wasn't sincere with her at all.

Not really.
Perhaps 'to' makes the other person sound slightly more passive.
