To say the territory on a daily basis

There are many hired bikes in China on the streets. You can use an app on your phone to rent a bicycle.

My classmate wanted to find a bike to which I replied 'There are some on the territory (of the campus)'. He told me 'the territory' has to be used in a formal language. In a spoken language it's really weird to say it.

Indeed it sounds odd?

The word "territory" is not particularly common in everyday speech, but there is no problem using it in spoken language in the right context. However, referring to a campus as a "territory" is normally odd, in both speech and writing, other than maybe in certain special situations. Just say "There are some on the campus".
