to return to the use of smth

Hi there!
I have a sentence here and I don't like "to return to the use". Is there a better analogue for this phrase?

It made it possible to return by the end of 80s to the use of 48Ca for the synthesis of elements.

The sentence is not clear. Do you mean that 48Ca had been used for synthesizing elements, but then was prohibited? At the end of the 1980's these restrictions were lifted, so experimenters could again use 48Ca in the synthesis of elements.

Hi AStarts, thanks. No, it was not prohibited. It's just it started to be used again after a while. So I need to put this phrase "to return to the use of" some other way.

How about this?
At the end of the 1980's, experimenters returned to the practice of using 48Ca in the synthesis of elements
