to receive a letter/birthday card

Hello,
I have a ridiculous question for you today. I personally think that "I received your birthday card a few hours ago and I really liked it" and "I received your letter a few hours ago" sound fine. I was told that "receive" sounded unnatural in the sentences above. I disagree, but what do you think?

Gene93 I was told that "receive" sounded unnatural in the sentences above. No, that's nonsense. It is perfectly natural and correct.
