To recall and To recollect?

What is the difference between " To recall" and " To recollect"? Please give some examples. Thanks

One possible difference is in the case that someone is speaking about their memories. For example, in "In the TV programme, he recalled/recollected his wartime escapades", I think I would use "recalled" not "recollected".
