Vocabulary

to read about/of something

Hello,
Is there any difference in meaning between the two? Here's an example sentence:
- I was surprised to read of/about the theft of the mayor's new jet.

It might sound odd, but some mayors are wealthier than we think they are. I can vouch for that. Emotion: sad

Top answer

Gene93 - I was surprised to read of/about the theft of the mayor's new jet. It is the same choice as for talk/speak of vs about : 'of' is a brief mention, while 'about' is a lengthier discussion.
