Vocabulary

to quash an idea

Hello,
Is it common to use "quash" in collocation with idea/s? Here's a sentence: "I thought that my ideas were quite bright, until the boss quashed them." I've seen many other verbs (stifle, stamp on, reject) used in collocation with idea/s. What do you think sounds best?

Thank you

No, it's not a common collocation. Of your other choices, 'reject' is the clearest term.

How would you use "quash", and does "reject" collocate best with "idea" in general? In such contexts, of course. I thought "squash" could be used, but I was wrong.

Thank you.

Quash is most often used to mean that something of a legal nature is no longer valid,
eg The Court of Appeal quashed the decision of the lower Court.

You could consider
eg My boss shot down / threw out / nixed my idea.
