to put things into cases, bags etc ready for a trip somewhere

to put things into cases, bags etc ready for a trip somewhere

I couldn't understand the above definition. I would have written: to put things into cases, bags etc so that you are ready for a trip somewhere. Can you make it any easier for me?

The lemma is without time, person or number, hence its description should be the same.

Hi,
The writer is focusing on the idea that the things, perhaps the bags, are ready for a trip. Not on the idea that the person is ready for a trip.

In other words, 'ready' is just adjectival here, describing the things.

The head word in the dictionary is the lemma. In the case of an English verb that is the infinitive. To describe an infinitive word the description must also be infinite otherwise it won't truly reflect the word it aims to describe.
