Vocabulary

to put something on hold/on the back burner

Is there any difference in meaning between: "I am afraid I might have to put my plans on the back burner" and "I am afraid I might have to put my plans on hold"?
I can't see any difference in meaning and they both suggest to me that something more important/urgent has come up.
