what's the difference between

She plays the piano.
and
She plays piano.

Are the two correct?

hi yes both of the two structures are correct ( i play piano) indefinite thats mean i can play on any piano but i play the piano ( definite ) its mean i play on this piano and thanks

yes both of the two structures are correct

( i play piano) indefinite thats mean i can play on any piano

but i play the piano ( definite ) its mean i play on this piano

I'd say they are both correct, but the greatly more common expression is the former.

I just checked via Google, and it's play the piano by a ratio of 2 to 1.

She plays piano is not found in standard (? any other form of) British English in the sense of imparting information that the person in question has the ability to play that instrument. It may perhaps be found in a phrase such as She plays piano in the orchestra.

I've always been taught you have to use the article when saying you (can) play a music instrument: play the piano, play the guitar... I'm not familiar with "she plays piano", except maybe to mean "she plays slowly": "chi va piano va sano"
