Vocabulary

to play out well

Hello,
Most online dictionaries define "play out" as "to develop or end in a particular way". Can we use it in:
- I shouldn't have worried about it so much. It all played out well.
- We moved to the big city when we were 20 and getting a decent job wasn't easy. I am glad everything played out well for us.

If play out sounds odd here, could you please tell me what is wrong with it?

Thank you.

Yes, probably. Doesn't "play out" have the same meaning as "work out/turn out" here? I can't think of a difference.

Yes, broadly speaking.
But it's not an expression I hear every day.

Would turn out/work out be acceptable (in the sentences above) in your variety of English? And one last question, Clive. "Play out" is just not as popular as some other verbs, or there's something wrong with it? I referred to a few sources and it doesn't seem to be very popular at the moment.

Thanks, Clive. My native language hasn't changed much (except for the slang), but it's a pretty useless language anyway. Emotion: smile
