To "play a battlefield"?

Does the sentence, "There's a new battlefield being played." make grammatical sense, or just sense in general?

I'm guessing the person is using the phrase "Playing the field" as the basis for this line, but I'm not sure you can borrow the phrase in this context. The "battlefield" line isn't being used in a dating/romantic context, far from it.
