To place an order

Dear all,

I have some problems to understand the difference between:

"I place the order"

"I send the order"

What is the difference?

Could I say:

"I applayed for electricity consumption yesterday" (this means I ordered the electricity for my customer´s stand)

Thanks for checking

'place the order' or 'make the order' are more general. You can place (or make) an order by talking to someone in person or on the phone. 'send the order' requires a physical paper document (or an electronic equivalent) which you send by regular mail (or transmit by e-mail).

Hi CJ,

Thanks! This confirms what I thought..

I usually use "to send the order" because I send an electronic document to order electricity.

If I ordered by talking on the phone I would say "I made the order"

Same like it is in italian :-)

"I send the order"

The core meaning is relatively the same. You can place an order on something with either texting, calling or prucahsing on line. "Send" connotes by mail. Usually, most people would just say " I am ordering pizza for dinner..". In the US, we don't say " did you order electricity? "; we say " Did you call
