Vocabulary

to pay for something with your own money

Does "His new car is really nice and he paid for it with his own money" sound odd to you? I think it's fine, but some people beg to differ. What exactly is wrong with the sentence?

Thank you

Gene93 Does "His new car is really nice and he paid for it with his own money" sound odd to you? No. It just needs a context in which "he" often needs to borrow money from others to pay for things.

The sentence suggests to me that he earned the money and spent it on a new car. I don't know what else it could suggest. I could pay for something with my grandma's money, but in that case I wouldn't use "with my own money".

Either your grandmother is doting and generous, or you are pilfering from her sock drawer.
