Grammar

To paraphrase a sentence.

I've read following sentence in a book.

Still it probably took a long time before mother delivered humanity's maiden speech.

"mother delivered humanity's" is the confusing part. Please someone tall me what it the meaning of this. If anyone could divide the first sentence into small sentences, I think I would be able to understand it correctly.

You are dividing it incorrectly.

mother || delivered | humanity's maiden speech

mother || presented (spoke) | the maiden speech of humanity (of mankind)

Without context I have no idea what it really means.
