To or for - sentence

"I'm looking for an electronic store to buy a socket-adapter"

Is this sentence above correct?

I really struggle with these infinitive-constructions, because here in Germany we use them all the time to express intention and in english it's often said with prepositions instead of "to".

Are there any rules to when I should use "to" or "for" or anything else?

like:

"I'm looking for an electronic store for buying a socket-adapter"

Thank you very much!

  • I don't think that there's a page of neatly laid out rules, but one thing I can tell you is that learners try to use 'for + -ing' too often.

Yes, it is very common to use the to-infinitive for purpose. Here is a good explanation.
