1. I'll explain this subject to you.

2. I'll explain this subject for you.

Which one is correct?

A teacher to their students:

1. I'll explain this subject to you.

2. I'll explain this subject for you.

Which one is correct? #1 is better than #2.

He could also say simply I'll explain.

But consider that it is a teacher's job to explain subjects to his students, so why would he say this?

Both would be understood as correct to a native speaker in this scenario, however, there is a technical difference.

Explain to you = presenting the explanation to a person because understanding is absent


Explain for you = presenting the explanation in the person's stead, as a favor or otherwise unable
