To natural decrease was added a flow of emigration almost as long?

Could anybody analyse the title sentence's structure for me? The following is the context:
"Ireland is unique among European countries for its century-long population decline. To natural decrease was added a flow of emigration almost as long."

Any information or reponses from you will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Is this from a population/demography course? Natural increase - birth minus death emigration - migration to other places My take on this: After Ireland had a bout of natural increase, it suffered from an almost equally long duration of emigration, and that accounted for the population decline.

Is this from a population/demography course?

Natural increase - birth minus death
emigration - migration to other places

My take on this:
After Ireland had a bout of natural increase, it suffered from an almost equally long duration of emigration, and that accounted for the population decline.

It may be my fault, because I didn't give the complete context which is very long. The meaning of this sentence is clear: some reasons contributed to Ireland's century-long population decline, and there is an additional reason which was emigration contributing the population decline. What I want to know is the sentence's structure. What is subject, what is object , predicate verb and so on?

I'll take a stab at it. Mind you, I'm no grammarian.

We started off with a sentence like this:

Z adds X to Y.

Move Y to the beginning (aka. inversion), you have:

To Y Z adds X.

Make a passive voice out of the verb, the sentence will become:

To Y X is added.

Now toss in a second inversion:
To Y is added x.

To natural decrease was added a flow of emigration almost as long.

This is an inversion of:

[A flow of emigration almost as long] {was added} (to natural decrease).

[subject] {verb in passive voice so there's no D.O.} (prepositional phrase)

Within the subject "of emigration" is a complement prepositional phrase to "flow", and "almost as long" is an adjectiv

Thank you. I took a wild shot at the question mainly to bump up the thread (and hopefully catch some attention). Glad it worked.
