To my eye ( = in my opinion, having seen them)

Hello,

I am uncertain as to the meaning of "to my eye" / "in my opinion" / "as far as I am concerned".

If any native speaker could clear up my conundrum, I will be very grateful.

My understanding of the following sentence show you so as to make a check or comment easy to do.

{To my eye (of dictionary notes: = in my opinion, having seen them) his paintings are just ugly daubs.}

my understading is: Only comment this way can match what I have seen.

Thank you for your help.
