To me or for me

Should I use "for" or "to" in the two sentences below?

1) He's a gentleman, and that's very important to/for me.

2) To/for me, marriage is not an important thing.

Thank you.

Both are OK'; however, 'to' is much more commonly used with 'important'. That's what I would use.
