To make short work of ...

Hi

I am familiar with the idiom make short work of something, but I don't know if it can be used in everyday conversation like this.

Are these sentences natural?

Can you make short work of your lunch and come down quickly.

A - I am still ironing/pressing your shirt.
B - Make short work of it; I am getting late. [make short work = do it quickly]

The t-shirt is not ironed well. The maid has really made short work of it. [made short work=has done a bad job]

Thanks,

Tom
