To make profit

Hi teachers,

I m looking for the correct way to say this:

"We cannot work without making any profit"

My colleagues usually say "We cannot work in lost" but I am sure that this is not correct. I know that they mean to work without making and profit so in loss. Could I say: "We cannot work profitless"???

Thank you

Pamela
