Hi,

May I add "throw" to the list? Or is it only British?
Cambridge dictionaryJanet threw a party for Jack's fiftieth birthday.

"Throw" is the verb that goes with "party". Other verbs can be used, such as "have a party", but they are just general purpose verbs shoehorned into this role (jack of all trades, master of none).
