To live versus living. Chapter 3 (I)

Hi teachers,

Could you tell me which is the right option? This is from a typcal true or false exercise.

a) Young Americans dislike to live in big cities.

b) Young Americans dislike living in big cities.

  • For some reason which I'm hard-pressed to explain, "like" by itself works well with both the gerund and the infinitive: Do you think you'd like living/to live in a big city?
  • There is a slight difference in sense between the two.

For some reason which I'm hard-pressed to explain, "like" by itself works well with both the gerund and the infinitive:
