To light/for lighting

Hi

Is a candle for lighting or to light if I want to answer the question 'What is it for?'.

Thanks

Hi, Neither is wrong, but choose 'for lighting'. This sounds like 'a candle is for touching with a match', ie the act of lighting. But really, that does not tell you much about a candle.

  • I'd say 'A candle is for providing light'.
  • 'A canndle is to provide light'.
