To last

Hi,

I have some doubts in the use of this verb in the following sentences:

"The film lasted one hour" Is the verb correct for this context?

"The lesson lasted one hour" same question...

Can I have some synonims for this? I would say "to have a duration of.." ???

Thanks

Pamela

Can I replace with " to have a duration of" ?

You're welcome.

"The film to have a duration of one hour."

"The lesson to have a duration of one hour."

In my opinion, it doesn't sound correct. If it is correct, it sounds clunky, and it's not the way a native English speaker would form the sentences.

Thanks.

Can I say a bit differently: " the duration of the film was.."

Thank you very much

Yes, that would be correct too.

These are all OK:

The film lasted one hour.
The lesson lasted one hour.

The meal lasted two hours.

The concert lasted three hours.

The war lasted three years.

'had a duration of' is understandable, of course, but nobody is ever going to say it like that!

This is a very good explanation!
