To lack none / nothing of sth.

Hello there,

When preparing for the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, I've stumbled upon a test answer, which seems rather ambiguous to me. The text goes as follows:

In shocking fuchsia pink, the resulting multi-pocketed 'Nappa' bag certainly lacked ___ of MacDonald's signature style.

My answer was none, the Answer sheet claims that the only correct answer is nothing. I can, however, cite several texts from renown authors in which to lack none of sth.appears. Is it me or the test authors who's missing something here? Emotion: thinking

I appologize for replacing the original question with another one, I just felt quite embarrassed, when I found out that launchis used this way just in the passive voice. So I thought I would post the second issue I've had with that test in its stead.

Hi,

I don't know.

Please don't replace questions once you have asked them.

CliveI wouldn't say either word is wrong. 'Lacked nothing of' is a more emphatic and perhaps a more literary expression.
Hey, thanks for your insightful answers.

Hi,

With these tests, it's not unusual for more than one answer to be correct grammar. However, the examiner expects you to choose the answer that he thinks is the most likely.
