To kind of get

I've started to kind of get clues as to what they were doing.

Does the sentence above sound natural?

Top answer

In informal speech it would be natural. In writing, this casual/chatty use of "kind of", almost as a filler, seems a bit more noticeable. It wouldn't be suitable for formal writing.

  • I am as guilty as anyone of saying "kind of" and "sort of" too much, but ideally one should try to minimise one's usage of these phrases as fillers.
