To insist

Hi,

I have many doubts about this verb "to insist" I don´t know what preposition of form use after it. Please check:

1. If you instist saying that...... (here I would use the ING form)

2. You insist by saying that.... (is the "by"necessary?)

3. You insist with this... (can be "to insist with something" ?)

Thank you for your help

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

It would be: "You insist on sayING that..."

The for ING should be there?

Thanks!

To insist BY... is really wrong?

Yes, we use the gerund (ing-verb). Or, alternatively, you can use a subordinate clause with should, e.g. 1) He insisted on being examined by a doctor. 2) He insisted that he should be examined by a doctor (... that a doctor should examine him).
