To + ing

Hi

Can I use to + ing this way?

I'm looking forward to working with you.

I'm looking forward to meeting you.

I learnt to + ing was wrong? Please tell me if it is correct.

Thank you.

Yours are correct because the structure is 'to look forward to + noun'. 'To' is a preposition, not the infinitive particle.

Joe Kerr I'm looking forward to working with you.
I'm looking forward to meeting you
These are fine.

"To" has many uses. In this case it's just a preposition.

What you learnt may have been in relation to two contrasting verbals, the infinitive and the present participle.

I like swimming.

I like to swim.

Note that "looking forward to" doesn't work with an infinitive:

I would like to climb that mountain. (infinitive)
I'm looking forward to climbing that mountain. (gerund) (not present participle)
I'm looking forward to climb that mountain.
