#1 and #2 are correct grammar but strange meanings.

Actually, what I intended by #1 and #2 is as follows:

1. I worked hard, but failed eventually.
2. She married him happily, but divorced him at last.

Is it possible that they are interpreted as the above sentences?

lucas21c1. I worked hard to fail. 2. She married him happily to divorce him.
In these two I believe you are trying to create an infinitive of result, and in many cases (These are two of them) you have to add "only" to make it work so that a native speaker will understand your meaning. A comma also helps.

I am sorry that there is a typo in #3. It should have been "He lived to see his great grandchildren." (though it may not influence whether you can understand the sentence). "He lived (long enough) to see his great grandchildren" or ''He lived so long that he saw his great grandchildren" is almost the same as what I intended, so I think, #3 is okay and understandable tho

That's OK. The principle is the same regarding the use of the infinitive, which you were mostly interested in.
lucas21c#3 is okay and understandable though
