To hyphenate or not to hyphenate...

Is it silky-smooth or silky smooth

Top answer

Oxford Online Dictionary has it as silky smooth , but a couple of other online dictionaries include the hyphen. The Corpus of Global Web-Based English (GloWbE) has 444 entries without a hyphen, and 61 entries with a hyphen. It seems either is acceptable.
