Hi,To house, to host, to premise and to be home to.Those verbs are similar in meaning, but they can't be used with the same subject. I can't understand how to use and how to distinguish them. I cheked my monolingual dictionary, but I'm not satisfied.Please, if you can help me.Valentina

'to house' means: to contain or accommodate. Example: 'The team members were housed in the local hostel.'

'to host' means: to receive or entertain guests. Example: 'The team members were hosted by the owner of the local hostel.'

It's so hard to explain the meaning of 'to be home to'. Here is an example to show how it's used: 'At different times of the year, the hostel was home to a variety of interesting and colourful people. Often, members of sports teams would stay there.'
