Could someone please help me with an essay I've got to write for class.

It's about Andrew Marvell's poem "To His Coy Mistress". I have to talk about an aspect of life that the poem deals with(I'm thinking about doing Time and its effects) and how he deepens our understanding of this aspect of life. I don't have any notes on this so any help would be appreciated.

00'the mistress' is a virgin trying to preserve her virginity. The persona, however, tries to persuade her to enjoy life now (i.e. "carpe diem") and enjoy sexual pleasure.02br

00The poem was first studied at value, it wasn't seen as a parody until Marvell's puritan sympathies came to light (it is also his only poem in the cavalier tradition). The Cavalier theme of 'Carpe Diem' is inflated in this poem. The persona presents life as the most valuable thing. (We live now! Not in the afterlife, there probably is no afterlife, anyway.) This is something the cavalier poets would think. They were all hedonists. Marvell makes a parody out of this. It is a Puritan critique.02br
