To have his hand get stuck in the wound

Hi friends

I'm reading a treatise of Seneca, but can't get this sentence:

Surely no one would choose to hit a foe so hard as to have his hand get stuck in the wound and be unable to withdraw from the blow.

what is the meaning of have his hand get stuck in the wound?

I understand this sentence in this way that when you hit someone first blow, you begin a quarrel that couldn't stop it whenever you want. But I'm not sure.

You hit a guy with your fist and your fist gets stuck in the guy's body. You cannot escape. So he can batter your head with his free arm. It's like the Uncle Remus tale of Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby.
