To have done

Hello,

can you please tell me what structure is it?

"We hope to have done the work by 5 o'clock."

Why, if it refers to the future, the perfect infinitive is used?

Thank you

The perfect infinitive underlines the fact that the work as been completed by 5 o'clock. This infinitive is possible with will/shall as well: We will/shall have done the work by 5 o'clock. CB
