To have a narrow mind

Hi there,

may I know if "to have a narrow mind" sounds offensive to an English native speaker?

Maybe if I said "you are not so open minded" would it sound better?

Thanks for replying

Best wishes

Pamela81 Hi there, may I know if to " have a narrow mind" sounds offensive to an English native speaker? It certainly is a criticism, as it is meant to be. How offensive it is largely depends on who it is said to and how it is said.

Hi,

thank you so much, it is clear.

Could you please advise an alternative not to be offensive?

Thank you!

Hi,

I need to find an adjective, if there is one, which means the same as "narrow minded"but not that offensive.

Now, it just came to mind "conservative" could it work?

Thank you in advance

Hi Regards,

thank you for the suggestion but I don´t think it has the meaning I was looking for.

"Bigoted" is in Italian "bigotto" and is not a very positive word, usually we say it when we want to describe someone who is against every kind of fun or freedom, most of the times is related to ***.

Maybe I am wrong but I think "bigoted" is not OK.

What about "conse

the same as "narrow minded" but not that offensive.

My thesaurus mentions these:

uncharitable, provincial, insular, straitlaced, intolerant, prejudiced, biased, one-sided, opinionated, dogmatic
