To go or going

Her mother does not approve of her going to the party without dressing formally.

A question from an online test. I wonder will it make any changes to the meaning of the sentence if I use "to go" instead of 'going'?

No, the sentence chose to use "approve", the gerund form of the verb is correct. It would be correct if the sentence used another verb "allow" i.e. Her mother does not allow her to go to the party without dressing formally.

The meaning will be the same ifthe listener can figure out that you're trying to say 'going' but you haven't learned English well enough to say it correctly.
