to go on break somewhere

Hello,
What do you think of: "Her son went on summer break in Southern France last week"? Even when classes are not held, are we not more likely to use "holiday"? Most native speakers I know usually say "holiday". Which one sound more natural to you?

Hmm...Does that mean that "I am currently on vacation in France" would sound better than "I am currently on summer break in France"? I've never heard anyone say "I am ....on summer break....". That proves nothing, though.

There is no "summer break" in the American school system. Students get a "spring break," that is a one-week period when school is not in session. This happens in March or April.

When we are working, we take a vacation. Vacations can be a week to a month long. We can take a summer vacation, a winter vacation, a spring vacation, or a fall vacation.

I had no idea there you didn't have summer breaks in the States. People who work usually go on vacations, yes. A few months ago I was told that it's impossible for students to go on holidays or vacations. They go on breaks. I am not sure if that's true, and that's definitely not the case in my experience.
