Vocabulary

to glance over at someone

Hello,
What does "over" suggest to you in: "The gorgeous lady in the corner's been glancing over at me all night and I am getting really pissed off."? I think it refers to the distance between him and her and can be left out. What do you think?

Thank you.

Over implies "from across the room." You were not sitting next to her. It also implies a more deliberate action.

P.S. Why would it upset you if a gorgeous lady has been glancing at you?

I am not the author, actually. I am not a pick-up artist, but if you give someone all your attention or smile at the beginning, the battle's over.
