To give something/somebody a quick once-over

Is the use of once-over common among native speakers?

I gave my room a quick once-over before the guests arrived.

I'd say it was quite common, but I'm not sure what you want it to mean.

A once-over usually means an examination or appraisal.

If you mean that you had a quick look around the room to check, for instance, that nothing compromising was visible, then that's fine.

If you mean that you tidied up the room against the arrival of the guest,
