Vocabulary

to get things straight

Hello everyone,

I began a business e-mail with
"I'm glad we got this straight and can take further steps accorrdingly."

Some people in my office ( Russianss) thought this was rude and disrespectful (the "we got this straight" part).

Does it really sound that way? Are there any connotations to this idiom?

Many thanks,

Tanya

I think it depends somewhat on the wider context. If "I'm glad we got this straight" really means "you finally understood what I've been trying to tell you" then it could be taken as being pointed. If it means something more like "I'm glad our organisation has been able to fix this problem" then it would be OK.
