To get the seasons back in sync

To get the seasons back in sync, in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII removed 10 days from the calendar! Now spring would begin again on March 21.

I suspect if in sync could be replaced with at the same. If not, how would you interpret it? Thanks.

No.

to be in sync = to operate in a coordinated way in time; operating with a coordinated or parallel rhythm
to get something back in sync = to restore something to its former state of being temporally coordinated
