to get hooked

Hi,
A Canadian guy told me "I got hooked this trip" in capital letters. I live in Ireland, no one has a clue of what this means. In the context, i was saying that i crave to travel and we kinda like each other. And we can apparently get hooked by sth or someone...
What does that mean? that this trip to Ireland made him addicted to travelling or has it sth to do with the fact that we met? pretty confused right now.

Hi Yes, it definitely means 'to become addicted to'; the meaning of the word used to refer to addictive drugs - and may still do However, the word is very often used in a positive way nowadays If the Canadian guy visited Ireland and said he was hooked, he probably means: I've discovered that Ireland is a really great place and I will definitely be coming back here Dave
