To get fired from work vs. to get laid off

Hi guys,

is there any difference between phrases "to get fired from work" vs. "to get laid off from work"?

Does it mean the same or "to get laid off" means to be released with some compensation money?

To get fired - You did something wrong and the company is punishing you. You can't work there anymore. To get laid off - The company doesn't need you anymore or they can't afford to pay you anymore.
