To get

Hi, To what refer "to get" here? I don't understand

"Germany was similarly punished for attempting to control more than the other great powers would have allowed it to get."

Top answer

There is not enough context to tell us what Germany might have gotten control of if the other great powers had not stopped it from getting that control.

Sorry I hope this text will clear things up...

"Napoleon Bonaparte discovered this equation when his attempt to dominate Europe was challenged by an alliance of middle powers and was ultimately defeated and he was forced to retreat inside France. Germany was similarly punished for attempting to control more than the other great powers would have allowed it to get."

I thought I had already explained what was gotten (or not gotten) in my first post. In any case, what Napoleon got does not help us with what Germany got, unless it is also 'domination'.

Hi Mister, I understand now... reading the article I see they don't talk more about Germany so I will have to think what they mean with that by myself, thanks
