To & for

Dear teachers

I am confused when using 'to' or 'for' in sentences.

While reading Bible, for example, there is a sentence I don't know why using 'sweet to' and 'healthy for'.

The sentence is below.

"Kind words are like honey - sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."

Thanks in advance.

That doesn't sound like the Bible, and I can't find it in there. But anyway, Things are sweet to you because they taste sweet to you. "To" has a thousand and one uses.

  • Not many dictionaries will even try to cover them all.
  • The two major ones I just looked at online do not have this sense of the word.
