Ok, thank you. Just to make it clear, it is advisable to use "south" in the sense "to face" or "to be directed to" which implies there is no "move" taken. While "southWARD" use when denoting the action - travelling, moving, etc ... Correct me, please, if I'm wrong.

Yes, I find southward is more often used to imply motion, but you'll certainly find contrary examples on both sides. In exploring dictionaries you've surely found how common it is for words to have several useages.
