Vocabulary

to expand on something/to expound something

Hello,
What in your opinion would be the difference between: "Could you please expand on your theory?" and "Could you please expound your theory"? The meaning of "expand" is clear. What about "expound"? Does it simply mean adding more details?

Thank you, Clive. Is it true that we expand on something we've said, whereas that's not necessary with "expound". Also, is it true that if we say "expound on something" could mean that it was boring? If it's not boring, we should use the verb transitively.

These are just a few things I found on the internet.

Thank you, Clive. I have one last question. Expounding on something involves providing greater detail. I think that the meaning of "to elaborate" is similar. I just looked both of them up, but nothing helpful came up.

Yes, they are similar.
